Wall hung toilet: in a modern interior

Not so long ago, hanging toilets appeared in the bathrooms and bathrooms of our compatriots. In foreign homes, this plumbing innovation has already managed to gain popularity and occupy its niche in the field of interior items that help to save usable space and time for cleaning it. Let's take a closer look at all the advantages and disadvantages of such a purchase, learn about the “pitfalls” of toilet bowls with installations and how to choose the perfect model for your interior.

Design features

Not so long ago, our compatriots who saw in the magazines or on the pages of Internet resources the design projects of bathrooms and toilets with hanging toilets could only be surprised - how, at first glance, this unreliable design is fixed? There is no familiar foot for most of us, and no wall mounts are visible either. Today, most homeowners, who were puzzled by the issue of buying plumbing, know that installation gives stability to a hanging toilet — a massive frame, most often made of steel. Such a frame can only be attached to the wall or even additionally to the floor. The illusion of the suspended state of the toilet arises due to the fact that the mounting frame (installation) is closed with a false, made, as a rule, of drywall.

A hanging toilet is most often mounted in a niche in the bathroom, where the water supply and sewerage communications are located. In this case, the drain tank, together with all the accessories, is hidden behind a drywall. If you choose another place to install the toilet, you still have to build a recess of 20-25 cm in size for mounting the drain tank. The tank will be attached at four points, two of which are located on the floor, which allows you to adjust the height of the vessel with water. The drain tank is not made of ceramic or porcelain, as is the case with conventional designs, but of durable plastic. Access to the drain tank will be through the drain button, which is located above the toilet. Using the opening of this button, it will be possible to shut off water or carry out minor repairs of fastening elements, parts of communications.

The only thing that will be visible to our eyes is the toilet bowl. But the choice of this structural element should be approached with all responsibility, not only because of this. A modern range of models of thicker toilets allows us to make a choice according to the following criteria:

  • shape - from traditional oval to rectangular, square and even polyhedrons;
  • color - from classic snow-white to black or red;
  • material - ceramics, porcelain, glass, polymer concrete, "liquid marble", steel.

If we talk about the features of the choice of material for the execution of the toilet bowl, then plastic is quite cheap, but not practical. The material is easily scratched and quickly loses its "salable" appearance. The disadvantage of polymer concrete is that it can not be cleaned by any means. In practicality competitions, faience loses to china. Porcelain products are smoother, easier to clean and will have to be done less frequently.

Pendant toilet prejudices

  1. Let’s try to dispel the first prejudice associated with hanging toilets with installation, which says that these structures are unreliable and can not withstand the weight of an adult and, moreover, a full person. Many people think that obese people can’t install cantilevered toilets in their homes. But it is important to understand that the reliability of the fastening of the structure is ensured by a steel frame, which, among other things, is mounted to the wall and ensures the stability and strength of the entire structure. Modern manufacturers of plumbing declare in the technical passports of their goods that a hanging toilet is capable of supporting a weight of 100 to 400 kg. Some take the bar higher, indicating a weight limit of 600 kg. It can be safely stated that even floor models of modern plumbing do not possess such admissibility limits.

  1. Many buyers who are faced with the choice of plumbing for bathrooms and toilets are afraid that if any component of the structure breaks down, it will be impossible to reach it because of the drywall panel hiding all the elements. But manufacturers have a reason to install a built-in tank made of durable plastic. Such an element can last for many years without repair. Replacement of any part may be needed unless in the drain system itself, which can be accessed through the drain button. By removing the panel from the flush button, you can get to the drain structure elements - the mechanism with a float and shut-off valve can always be adjusted or replaced.

It is also important to mention that the water supply tap (with which you can block access and repair or replace parts of the drainage system) is not quite typical. The crane has an original thread and it is attached using a plastic part, which is easy to unscrew. If a malfunction of the system is detected, then the tap can simply be removed or left open, in which case the water will shut off from the outside.

  1. Some of the homeowners worry that if one of the structural parts breaks down, it will be difficult to find a similar one or it will be expensive and the order will have to wait a long time. It must be said that initially the hanging toilet with installation is equipped with all the necessary details. Replacement items can be purchased at plumbing stores just like for any other plumbing model. In addition, the buyer chooses the drain button himself (it is not necessary to purchase the one that is recommended with this model of a hanging toilet) and can determine in advance the availability of spare parts for the sale of a plumbing store.

  1. Another concern of the owners of apartments and private houses, planning to repair the bathroom, is that for the construction of a structure with a false panel, you need more space than for a conventional floor toilet. But the bottom line is that the hanging toilet, unlike the floor, is located close to the wall. The space that is usually occupied by the flush cistern of a conventional toilet is set aside in this case for installation. If this mounting frame is installed in a communication niche, then the face will not only have an extra expense of the useful space of the bathroom, but even save precious centimeters.

  1. And the last, but not least, myth for most Russians is connected with the fact that the cost of a suspended structure is supposedly more expensive than a floor one. In fact, if you compare the budget models of floor toilets with hanging, the latter are really more expensive. But if we talk about models of the same quality (performance material, manufacturer, hardware strength level), then both floor and hanging models are in approximately the same sector of the pricing policy of sanitaryware manufacturers.

It is also necessary to say that the price of a suspended toilet is very seriously affected by the price of a steel frame, which can be purchased separately from the main structure. But experts do not advise saving on this important structural element, because it is the frame that provides reliability and strength of fastening, is the skeleton of the entire structure.

Advantages and disadvantages of wall hung toilets

Like any plumbing fixture, a hanging toilet has its own advantages and disadvantages. Among the obvious advantages are the following:

  • the toilet bowl looks very compact and neat due to the fact that all the associated elements are hidden behind the false wall;
  • obvious convenience in cleaning - the toilet itself is faster and easier to wash, it is also easier to wash the floors in the bathroom or bathroom under the plumbing, there is no need to wash hard-to-reach places behind the structure, as happens with ordinary floor models;
  • when water is drawn into the drain tank, the noise is much less, because the vessel is located behind the drywall;
  • it is possible to configure full or partial drainage of water;
  • reliability of fastening;
  • stylish and modern appearance, which, meanwhile, harmoniously integrates into any style of interior design, even classic.

The disadvantages of installing a hanging toilet include:

  • the need to call a specialist for installation of the structure - there are a lot of videos on the Internet that show cases of self-installation (if you have certain skills and a set of tools), but you should not risk the reliability and strength of the structure that all family members use every day, it’s better to spend money on the services of a master ;
  • in some cases, the installation of a hanging toilet is impossible without transferring communications, and this entails additional costs for materials and work, and also increases the installation time;
  • if there is no niche in the bathroom for communication lines, then it will be necessary to build a recess for installing a hanging model, which also entails additional costs;
  • subsequently, the false wall may impede access to general communications if there is a breakdown in the water supply or sewage system.

A few tips for choosing a wall hung toilet model effectively

Among the many manufacturers of plumbing devices, the largest trust among Russian buyers earned companies from Germany and Italy. High-quality models in the middle price category are produced by Czech and Bulgarian companies.

A hanging toilet may seem completely tiny to you, but be sure to make sure that its “modest” dimensions correspond to the free space in your utility room before buying. Make all necessary measurements before deciding to go to a plumbing store.

If, among other things, you planned to purchase a bidet, then pay attention to the fact that many reputable manufacturers have models in which there are corresponding functions, and you can purchase 2 in 1, save. If you will purchase two plumbing devices, then it is more practical and more expedient to install them on one installation. So the couple will not only look harmonious, but also reliably installed with savings for the owners.

Before purchasing your favorite model, be sure to read the quality certificates, technical documentation, installation and use instructions. Self-respecting manufacturers must give a guarantee on their product - make sure it is available.

From the point of view of practicality, it is best to choose a circular flush for the toilet - it is much easier to maintain a clean bowl.

The button on the drain tank can be connected to common fittings using pneumatics or mechanical devices. It is they - levers and cables, that are considered more reliable elements that serve for several years without interruption.

To save water, experts recommend installing a two-button drain system - to completely empty the tank and partial (most often no more than half of the available fluid). You can also install a system to stop the drain when you press the drain button again - so you can independently adjust the amount of water flushed into the toilet bowl.
