Schlumbergera is a forest cactus that blooms in December due to its characteristics. Therefore, it is also often called the Decembrist.

This flower has no thorns. In forest nature, it can often be found on tree trunks or roots. In winter, the plant adorns itself at home, uplifting with its beautiful, delicate buds.

But unfortunately, it also happens that beautiful buds fall for one reason or another. Why is this happening? You will find the answers to all questions below.

How and when does Schlumbergera bloom?

Flowering and variety of fruits of this plant depends on what kind of plant it is.

Bukley

It can reach a height of 45 cm. Its leaves are dark green, very dense and glossy. The Decembrist stands out due to multi-tiered, tubular flowers reaching a length of 7 cm. The color of the buds is quite diverse: from white to purple. The flowering period is from November to March.

Gertner

It has a fairly large size. Dense leaves can reach 7-8 cm. The color of the flower is very diverse, it can be either red or white, or slightly pinkish, and the petals have an elongated shape and hanging stamens. The flowering period begins in late autumn and ends in February, and sometimes in March.

Zygocactus truncated

Schlumbergera has light green leaves of about 6 cm each. The flowers can be white, pink, purple, and they are located at the ends of the shoots. After flowering from November to February, red fruits are formed.

Russeliana

Its branches reach about 70-75 cm. The leaves are dark, flat. Large flowers have pointed edges, hanging pistils. Flowering can begin at the end of spring, and last several months.

Pollination of decembrist buds in the house is artificial, due to other plantslocated in the neighborhood. The variety of such a plant has become possible due to this feature (hybridization).

What causes the plant to drop unblown flowers?

Why does the Decembrist suddenly drop buds? Usually this is due to the fact that at the time of throwing flowers, the Schlumberger is rearranged from its usual place, or turned. It is very undesirable to do this, but there are other reasons for bud dropping.

Note! It is very undesirable to rearrange the flower during flowering to another place!

Diseases and Pests

The plant must be inspected at least from time to time for the presence of diseases or pests. Often, Decembrist suffers from fusarium, phytafluoride, phytium. The disease is indicated by fading or falling leaves. Spider mites and mealybugs are the most common pests of Schlumbergera.

Intexicidal drugs and fungicides help get rid of diseases and pests best of all.

Improper care

  • The pot with the plant is placed in direct sunlight, as a result of which it receives burns.
  • Schlumbergera is not moistened or watered too abundantly.
  • The soil in the pot is not nutritious.
  • The flower is not sprayed.
  • Schlumberger stands in a draft.
  • The Decembrist was not transplanted for a long time.

What makes a Christmas cactus crumble with good care?

Most likely, the flower did not feel the time of flowering. In order to fix this, at the end of September it is placed in a cool place and the amount of watering is reduced. In such conditions, it is better for the Decembrist to be until the end of November. Then it is placed in a warm place, and they begin to water abundantly. This will contribute to the flowering of the Decembrist.

Also, the reason that a healthy plant sheds its flowers may be the reappearance of buds in spring. Shedding will be quite normal in such a situation, because Decembrist is characterized by healthy and full bloom only in winter.

For what reason does he drop unopened buds?

  • Falling of still unopened buds can cause the death of the roots during hypothermia or drying out, acidification of the substrate. It is also possible that the soil lacks nutrients.
  • A lot of buds started, and the plant cannot provide all of them with water. Therefore, the Decembrist drops some buds, even if they have not yet blossomed.
  • Abundant hydration of the flower.Important! Do not flood the flower very much, the earth should dry out, otherwise the roots will moisturize.
  • Change of temperature. Schlumbergera is a very whimsical plant, and the temperature is below 16 degrees, or constant drafts can contribute to the fall of unblown buds.

What to do to solve the problem?

Of course, if the flowering period has already begun, and the buds have fallen, then from the Schlumbergera it is impossible to achieve the reappearance of flowers. It is only very good, according to the rules, to take care of the plant, to show attention and care to it. Then, next winter, it will show itself in all its glory.

  1. First you need to check the plant for the presence of diseases and pests. If they are, cure the flower with intexicidal preparations.
  2. Then it is worth transplanting the flower into another, wider pot with loose and nutritious soil.
  3. Regulate humidity by spraying the flower with water.
  4. Maintain a temperature of 16 to 27 degrees.
  5. Avoid drafts, or direct sunlight on the plant.
  6. At the time the buds appear on the shoots, you can not change the location. Therefore, until November, it is worth taking care of the most advantageous place for the plant.
  7. You should regularly loosen the soil and introduce fertilizing for the plant.
  8. In the Decembrist, buds are formed only on young shoots. It is time to break off the plant.
  9. To prevent excessive watering of the plant, it will be better if the soil dries from time to time.
