Description and photo of species of nematanthus: Gregarius, Tropicana, Fritsch, Albus, Ankle, Fine-bristled

Nematanthus, or hypocirrhosis, is a unique plant that combines bright leaves and beautiful flowers. Many flower growers fell in love with its harmonious appearance, but they began to grow it relatively recently in the territory of the CIS countries. Due to the amazing shape and color of the flowers, this plant has received many nicknames. In Poland it is called a hunchback flower, and in English-speaking countries it was nicknamed the goldfish. In Germany, this flower evokes romantic associations with a kiss.

Popular views and their photos

Hypocyte counts about 30 varieties. However, not all of them took root on the windowsills and fell in love with flower growers. The following are considered the most popular species of this plant.

Gregarius or the Golden Fish (Gregarius)

One of the most spectacular species of this plant. Most often cultivated by gardeners and lovers of indoor plants. Its second name is better known - "Goldfish".

This species has thick dark green leaves and specific bright red-orange flowers resembling gold aquarium fish with their appearance.

Most often it is grown in hanging or wall-mounted flower pots. In this position, there is no need to cut the shoots, and the branches of this plant, like creepers, fall down.

Namatanthus gregarius has several subspecies and one of them is Nematanthus gregarius radicans. This subspecies is distinguished by an erect stalk of considerable length, which over time begins to droop a little. Gregarius radicans has dense opposing leaves arranged in pairs on the stem.

Tropicana

Nematanthus tropicana stands out among the rest with its large flowers, which have a pitcher-like shape. This comparison was due to the lower part of the flowers, which is slightly swollen.

On the flower buds are noticeable red-cinnamon and golden burgundy stripes. Inflorescences of this species have incredible beauty.

The dark green leaves of the Tropicana have a glossy surface and a reddish tint on the wrong side. They have an oval shape, slightly pointed to the apex. This species has erect shoots, which after some time begin to droop and slightly branch. The advantage of Nemanthus Tropicana is abundant continuous flowering.

Hypocytosis naked (Glabra)

This species is a semi-ampel plant, which is characterized by fleshy glossy leaves of an elliptical shape. These leaves grow up to 4 cm in length and have bright orange flowers that hang from the sinuses of dark green leaves in an amount of up to 3 pieces. Fritch (Fritchii)

Fritschka is a rather large type of Hypocirrhata with beautiful large leaves, up to 8 cm long, on the underside of which there is a light edge.

This species is much less common than others, but, nevertheless, it is also loved by many gardeners because of its size.

Bushes of an adult mature plant reach a height of 60 to 70 cm. It has a thin and rather heavily lowered stem. Nemantanthus fritsa is distinguished by gracefully curved funnel-shaped flowers. Inflorescences are painted in a deep pink color and grow up to 5 cm in length.

Ankle (Longipes)

Nematanthus ankle belongs to climbing shrubs. It has relatively large opposite leaves of a light green hue and elliptical shape, which I reach in length from 7 to 10 cm and about 4 cm in width. Pretty long pedicels, on which solitary bright red flowers are located, swollen on the tube and having a funnel shape.

Albus

It has wide tubular flowers that grow up to 5 cm in length and look slightly lowered. They have a pleasant cream color and are richly decorated with many spots and yellow dots. Flowers thin out the pleasant aroma that attracts tropical bees for pollination.

The leaves of this species are quite large, about 5 to 7 cm in length, painted in a deep dark green color. The underside of the leaves gives a reddish tint and is covered with veins of the same color.

They have an elongated, lowered shape, which is slightly pointed to the apex. Albus leaves also have their own special aroma.. Shoots of this species are erect, but over time they begin to droop and branch a little. In length, they grow to 70 cm.

Fine bristled (Strigillosus)

This species is a low bush, in height from 20 to 25 cm, which produces ascending erect shoots, quite branched.

The small-bristled nemanthus has shiny, small oval-shaped leaves that grow singly or collected in a few pieces.

Small-bristled nematanthus has tubular flowers with a characteristic spherical bloating. On the flowers there is a corolla having a small limb. Their color is richly yellow-orange, which is considered a classic for a hypocirrh plant.

Conclusion

In addition to those described above, there are many more types of non-mantus that are worthy of attention. Any window sill can decorate a hypocyte and, according to folk tales, this flower brings luck and happiness to the owner.
